Porcelain Crowns (Caps)

Porcelain Crowns (Caps)

A tooth crown (also known as a cosmetic dental cap) is a type of cosmetic or restorative dental application that completely covers or encapsulates a damaged tooth. Tooth crowns are often crafted in gold or porcelain. At Dental Devotion, Dr.’s Movaghari and Urteaga recommends porcelain crowns for their natural tooth-colored cosmetic appeal.

A tooth crown protects and strengthens the structure of the tooth in situations where the tooth cannot be restored with fillings or other types of dental restorations. Most tooth crowning procedures are recommended in situations that stem from fractured or broken teeth, decayed teeth, root canals, fractured fillings, and large fillings. Porcelain crowns are easily matched in color to the surrounding teeth. They cover the entire surface of the tooth, restoring it to the original size and shape.

As porcelain crowns are custom crafted, the crown process typically requires a few visits to Dental Devotion. In your initial appointment, Dr.’s Movaghari and Urteaga will take a mold (or tooth impression) of your teeth. This will be used to create your custom tooth crown. At your second appointment, your new porcelain crown will be placed and checked for bite accuracy.

Porcelain crowns help create a natural, long-lasting, and beautiful smile. Porcelain tooth crowns are extremely durable and will last many years. As with most dental restorations, tooth crowns are not indelible and may need to be replaced at some point in the future.

Dr.’s Movaghari and Urteaga will give you instructions on how to care for your new porcelain crown during your visit. As always, regular brushing, flossing and dental visits will add life to your teeth, tooth crowns, and any other dental restorations.
